The Cyprus Turkish Folk Dance Federation (KTHDF);  was established in 2006 using the authority granted by Article 13 of the Law on Youth Department (Establishment, Duties and Working Principles) of the Council of Ministers.

The Cyprus Turkish Folk Dance Federation, whose aim is to protect the most important living values of our culture, folk dances, to transfer them to future generations in a healthy way, to introduce and spread them to the masses, was established in 2006.

We currently have 29 associations registered in our Federation.

We can list the projects that our Federation plans to implement in cooperation with all our associations as follows;

  1. The implementation of our Folk Dances without Stage Arrangement (Authentic) and the implementation of our Folk Dances with Stage Arrangement  The Technical Committee studies we have established on the subject have been initiated.

  2. The Festival to be organized by the Federation will be held on 2 separate nights as a result of the joint work of our associations.

  3. In the Federation Festivals, associations will be able to participate in the festival with the dance repertoires "determined by the federation". Thus, since our associations will make presentations in the traditional style in the fields of figure, costume and music, the authenticity of our dances will be ensured especially by young instructors. Thus, our rapidly "changing" values will be protected.

  4. Training Courses have been opened and our instructors will be able to teach thanks to these documents.

  5. All folk dance instructors working in our associations and schools have received training within the framework of a curriculum to be created by this training committee. However, with the documents to be received at the end of this training, they should be allowed to provide training in associations and schools. Thus, it will be ensured that the people who will receive training in the social and cultural fields of our children and young people are also equipped.

  6. Our Federation and Associations will be promoted in cooperation with the Youth Department, Culture Department, KTHD Federation and BRT.

  7. A “Selection Committee Membership” course will be opened in cooperation with the Culture Department and Youth Department, and if necessary, with the help of experts in Turkey. After working for a certain period, those who are entitled to receive an instructor certificate will attend these courses and gain the knowledge and skills to evaluate figure, attitude, costume, music, line, presentation and various stage techniques.

  8. After also receiving the opinions of our associations; Inter-school competitions will be organized. The training to be provided by those with instructor certificates in our schools will provide the opportunity for the formation of higher quality teams. It will be ensured that the selection committee members who will make an educated, impartial and transparent evaluation will be on duty in the competitions. Before the competitions, the trainers will definitely be informed about the evaluation criteria and the teams will be asked to prepare according to these criteria. If it is assumed that the young people who do this activity in schools will continue the associations as a result of the competitions, this will strengthen our potential associations. I think that especially the inter-university folk dance competitions will contribute to our country's folk dances in many ways.

  9. A book (including team information and pictures) will be prepared to introduce all associations that are members of the federation in Turkish Cypriot Folk Dances and will be sent to CIOFF and International Folk Dance Festivals in Turkey, and these festivals will be able to get to know our teams.
